Overview

This unit develops advanced research skills in medical ultrasound, equipping you to critically evaluate literature, identify research questions, and design and conduct coherent research projects. You will explore practical, technical, and ethical considerations in research, apply appropriate methodologies, and analyse findings to generate new knowledge. The unit also fosters professional communication, self-management, and reflective practice, enabling you to translate critical and creative thinking into evidence-based clinical practice.

  1. Appraise the validity and impact of medical literature to inform evidence-based clinical ultrasound practice.
  2. Formulate research problems in medical ultrasound and design coherent research plans to address specific questions.
  3. Implement the practical, technical, and managerial aspects of designing and conducting a research project.
  4. Evaluate ethical considerations in research and manage the process of obtaining Ethics Approval.
  5. Evaluate research methodologies to investigate clinical questions and generate new knowledge.
  6. Communicate research findings effectively to professional and academic audiences.
  7. Synthesise self-management and reflective practice, to apply critical and ethical thinking to research decisions.
