Overview

This unit runs in the middle semester/s of the Master of Advanced Clinical Nursing - Nurse Practitioner. There are several mandatory assessments required by The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) in the Master of Advanced Clinical Nursing - Nurse Practitioner. This unit draws together academic work with workplace activities and is the repository for the workplace assessments. In the workplace, you will have both a clinical mentor, and a professional mentor, who meet regularly with you, set learning objectives and provide feedback.

Learning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge, emerging skills, and professional attitudes towards Nurse Practitioner practice with increasing independence.
  2. Utilise interpersonal communication skills, basic problem-solving strategies, and early clinical decision-making processes with increasing independence.
  3. Analyse holistic and person-centred care principles to plan and deliver advanced nursing care for individuals and families across a range of clinical settings.
  4. Integrate evidence to inform clinical decision-making, enhance health outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions.
  5. Analyse principles of health program planning, implementation, and evaluation to contribute to the development and quality improvement of health programs and services.
  6. Appraise ethical principles, legal requirements, and political influences to understand their impact on the Nurse Practitioner role and decision-making in professional practice.
  7. Examine principles of medication management, comprehensive health assessment, and diagnostic reasoning to manage increasingly complex clinical situations under supervision.
  8. Develop the capability to apply the NMBA Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice, demonstrating increased autonomy within advanced clinical practice.
