Overview

In this unit, you will continue to build upon your knowledge to further develop the competencies required for independent practice as a physiotherapist. You will reflect on your clinical experience within the Doctor of Physiotherapy so far and integrate it with tutorials and self-directed modules on qualitative research, clinical audits, survey analysis, health service quality and safety and health service experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Learning outcomes

  1. Describe and analyse a client's transition to a new context, referral for further physiotherapy and linkage to relevant clinical and non-clinical support services.
  2. Analyse the ethical principles of conducting clinical-based physiotherapy research.
  3. Describe the steps required for an audit and design a survey for a research question.
  4. Describe the purpose and main methods of qualitative research and apply them to physiotherapy practice contexts.
  5. Analyse the impacts of professional culture and the broader health system on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service experiences.

Workload

On-campus: Prior to your PTY5208 placement, you will complete approximately 4 hours of clinical essentials development delivered as live activities. Off-campus: During the 7 weeks when you are not on clinical placement, an average of 16 hours of online modules and private study is required weekly. It is recommended to complete the off-campus workload of this unit in the weeks you are not on clinical placement for PTY5208.
